Lavender Residency

What started with the kitchen, became the entire house. While the kitchen was very much a structural and aesthetic upgrade, the rest of the house was mostly about the paint. A gorgeous, custom, blue pine credenza. Light box art niches in one of the stairwells. Full repaint of the entire exterior, with a greater attention to emphasizing some of the trim work. We restored most of the woodwork inside, sections at a time, much of it historic, including doors. This was always a rainbow house, so we followed our inspiration! Muted pastels serve as good neutral walls in many rooms; bold gradients punctuate the space in the primary bath, the main entrance stairwell, and a deconstructed rainbow feature wall. Artwork was excavated, framed, and curated (and continues to be curated). Primary bath got a functional and aesthetic facelift, without digging into the expensive rehabs. This house is a living community offering, now in the form of a writer's residency space. The house regularly host workshops, small retreats, and residency scholarships for creatives who need an immersive space to keep birthing their project. With 1000s of books, and libraries in many of the rooms, this client stewards a unique treasure in today's home landscape, and it is a true gift to continue to facilitate such a beautiful metamorphosis of a historic home that was once suffocating under a previous era.
