Back Room Becomes a Star Sun Room

Roughly our 4th big project with these clients, we continued a trend of excellent tile, and really leaned into color, while making some key decisions that helped open up the space.

What had been a catch-all room for many years, with a wide variety of outdated lighting, animal damage, and an open-to-all office, we knew we wanted to find the better soul of this space, which connected the kitchen and the great room (historically a closed-in porch). A flex space that is: private, work-from-home, AND creatively, community-hosting. Besides the internal, structural matters that always need attention, our main focus was getting more light in the space. We removed a small man-door on the East side, and replaced with french doors, which spilled out to a lovely flagstone patio. We elevated the trim to mirror the detail around the original front door. We also widened the opening into the kitchen (through original brick exterior walls). Loving color, we decided to entertain bold. Combining color-drenching sections with high-contrast opposing colors and sheens, gave us a dynamically rich space. Great natural light and beautiful light fixtures became the jewels against this deep peacock teal-green, . The high gloss ceiling with sparkle refracting, is exquisite. This client, who is an artist, was a wonderful ally to procure the most "right" finishes for the space, and we are all very satisfied! It is their favorite room in their beautiful home✨
